The principals for a meaningful spiritual life are incorporated the eight-fold Yoga path of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. One who wants to live a spiritually fulfilling and purposeful life must abstain from inciting the body, mind and senses. On a physical level, this is done through sattivc food, good conduct and avoidance of injury to others. These guidelines improve not only your health, your moral and ethical conduct but they also nurture the spiritual side of your nature.
The other four internally cleansing practices - pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and samadhi —serve to bring your mind under control. When the purification of the mind is complete, the Six Poisons that defile the being – desire, anger, delusion, greed, lethargy and envy – will be wiped away one by one, revealing the Universal Self. Yog practices result in a subdued mind, that is free from external and internal sense organs and which eventually leads one to the full realization.
